I found this crab hiding in my wild colony of acro. I only post this because I need to make sure this crab is reef safe? My acro seems to be getting some bleaching at the base?

Is this little eating my coral or something????

Please help. Hes currently sitting in a bucket. Also, I accidentally pulled his claws off getting him out :( Sorry little fella.

If he is reef safe, I will put him back on his acro.

If he is not I will put him in my sump and feed him occaisionally.

    Thank you in advance.

probably will die, but lesson learned. look at pics of commensal crabs before trying to remove one.

I have heard that if they molt then they can regrow claws? I will try to put some peices of food in the branches of the acro so he can eat abit.

Yes, all crustaceans can regrow lost limbs. After 1 - 2 molts they'll be usable, and will reach full size in just 3 - 4. He should be fine without any special care since he's not under the threat of predation in your tank. :)

good crab... i got two in my acro cluster, completely harmless. infact symbiotic! keep in clean and healthy, while the acro keeps it safe and sheltered. they dont even seem to bother the polyps anymore, the just move through it like grass without them retracting.

FEWWWWWW, great news. I felt really bad when I thought I had killed it :-(. Fingers crossed it recovers well and grows abit bigger so its visible at least :)

I dont even like killing bristle worms! and get sad when snails die!

Yup, that is definitely a good commenseral crab. There are several different ones out there.

I certainly hope he is able to survive until those limbs regrow. Good luck to the little guy.
