I found an octopus in the sea last night. Think I should keep him? When he's balled up, he's about the size of a tennis ball. I have a 75 Gallon tank and I have a tiny 10Gallon tank. I've since dropped him in the little 10 Gal tank and he seems ok. I'll post a pic when I get home.

lol your in for a challenge.they are the best escape artists and will kill anything you put in a tank with them.you will need to seriously secure your tank with a reelly good lid,and forget about using a hang on back filter cause it'll escape through it with the greatest of easy.

What kind of filter should i use then. If he climbs out too much I'll just cook him. I was trying to decide if I should keep him as a pet or eat him. Hmmmm?

I would be careful, there was a news story a few years back of sharks and fish mysteriously dying every night so the staff set up cameras and what they found was that the octopus was climbing out of his tank and into the fish tanks and eating the fish, then climbing back into its own tank...run on sentence but you get the point.

Ihe only problem I have is that I may climb out of my bed at night and sleepwalk downstairs, eat the bastard and then go back the sleep. Next morning I'll fire the maid. LOL.

An Octopuses life is only about 8 months long! They are very difficult to keep as the water needs to be ideal-therefore, optimal filtration is hey! And yes they are great excape artists and one of the smartest animals in the world!
They will eat many different types of food, though crabs are their main staple.
You have to be careful that you don't stress it out or it will expell ink which is toxic both for the Octopus and the other livestock (bacteria, polychate worms etc.)in the tank!
Truly an amazing and interesting animal...
But one that should be left to its natural environment-the oceans from which it came!
