Peppermint shrimp, or any predator of aptaisia dosn't know the difference between an aptaisia and a coral.... And they are all hit or miss. There are certainly accounts of them eating corals. I think they can be useful if you have a lot of aptaisia. For just a few, just squirt some Joe's Juice, Aptaisia-X, boiling water, lemon juice etc.. and be done with it. This whole recommending peppermint shimp for a few measly aptaisia is like recomending and atom bomb for ant infestation LOL.

I get one or 2 popping up here and there and I zap some Aiptasia-X on it. After a treatment or 2, they're gone.

I'm still pretty new to all this, but does that mean you apply to the rock inside your tank with a baster or do you need to take the rock out to avoid getting the chemicals in your tank?

The "kit" supplies you with a needle-type applicator (1 angled head, 1 straight) and the bottle. I wouldn't go so far as to say that you could apply an entire bottle in one day but if you're just applying it to a few peices of aiptasia, you should be fine. I don't remove the rock while applying but I'm only targeting the one or 2 I see.

Ok, so when I keep reading about people applying the myriad chemical treatments, it's typically just spot applied with some sort of baster? I do know that copper treatments are done in a separate tank because invertebrates and corals can't take this, right?

Copper can not be done in the DT if you have inverts. Another popular treatment is a kalk/boiling water paste applied by needle.

Just for the record, peppermint shrimp will only eat aiptasia as a last resort of food.. They will eat whatever is fed into the tank first.. Also, if the aiptasia is larger than the shrimp, there won't even mess with it..

Providing it is aiptasia!! Turn off all the pumps & hit it with Aiptasia X, let it sit for 10min & turn the pumps back on.. Works great! There are a lot of great videos on youtube on how to use Aiptasia X.. ;)

Peppermint shrimp Don't know the difference I had that experience. I got two of the little devils just to have shrimp in my tank and a few days later picked up a small frogspawn then BAM that night half of the frogspawn was missing, that same day the shrimp went back to the LFS. They were well fed and even enjoyed a brineshrimp snack before i put the frogspawn in.

I've never had any troubles with my peppermints eating my corals. I see them poking around the bottom and rocks at night. Never noticed any corals missing or being damaged.

No NO NO I love hearing peoples answers to aptasia but for me when i had a big outbreak Copper Band Butterflies work the best. but good lick keeping them around much longer after the fact. but the absolute best and safest way I found is a torch lighter. thats right a lighter if you can pull th rock out of the water for a sec or 2 just torch the thing seems cruel but they have no benefit to me or my system so i want them gone and they will be gone in a split second forever.
