    I would be very surprised if based on the image and the description if that was not it, but I have been very surprised before.

    I'm willing to bet money that is what it is. It looks exactly like every one that has grown in my systems, it looks like the red variety the HH ID page shows.

    Sticking with Foraminiferan.

    Not really any worse than coralline algae. Harmless.
