    Is a protein skimmer needed with a 125 gallon FOWLR tank or are skimmer just for reef tanks?

    U need a skimmer It is what removes fish poop and pee along with uneaten food that is doselved

    skimmers arent as important in fowlr as in reef tanks, but your fish will appreciate just as much as corals do

    On a fowlr it is optional to some but I still say it is needed in my books

    How many hours per day would you recommend running a skimmer?

    I agree with the others,a fowlr can be done without a skimmer,but your water quality would stay in check much better and your fish would thank you for one.I would run the skimmer 24/7
