What is normal foxface behavior vs. stressed behavior?

My foxface has begun to flex up his spines much more often than previously, maybe 1 - 2 x a minute. I don't recall him doing it even as often as every five minutes before.

    Is he ill?

    Is he stressed?

I added some cerith snails and planted some items yesterday. Is this a sign of his adjusting to changes?

I recall mine doing the "spike" thing but it wasnt as often as yours. Is there a bigger fish than him?

I don't know about the behaviour of the Foxface but just curious... how is he doing in the reef? Does he pick on the corals?

I love the Foxface and recommend them.

Mine is in a 150 gal tank, lightly stocked, only small amount of zoas at this point. His companion fish is a sailfin tang who was there first. They swim around a lot together and I haven't seen the tang being aggressive towards him.

I'm guessing this behavior is in reponse to something going on in the tank and it will pass soon. Foxface is still eating well and moving about normally. He is simply acting "spiky".

Looks like you just created a new name for your FF. LOL. I really love mine, I have three that I've had for about a year and each one has it's own personality. Should be fine.

mine seems to go through phases in regards to spiking. sometimes he spikes quite a bit in short periods, other times less often. mine in regards to size is my biggest fish, but hes got a purple tang as buddy who is king of the reef here. lol so im guessing theres prob not a whole lot to be worried about. tho they are a bit of a skitterish type fish. the white mucus that luna is asking about , is the fishes slime coat i believe. they sometimes will shed it , and generally isnt much to be alarmed about
