My foxface is a very dull yellow and is like turning black on the upper portion of his backHE almost looks like he is in night mode all the time at least the upper half of him.

Anyone know what would cause this? any foods to brighten his color up?

Im not sure what it would be, No new adds recently, and it is only him a fairy wrasse and 2 firefish in the 72 gallon tank. HE is the biggest one in there. I have had him about 6 months, and I guess he was never the brightest but it seems like he is getting darker. I will try and get a pic up of him in a moment

Edit sorry, I typed slow I guess, looks like you just answered a few of my questions above LOL. Here is what remains...

I agree something is stressing him out. What are the parameters?

Also, what are you feeding him? They should eat a lot of greens. Algae or romaine on a lettuce on a lettuce clip is almost essential. If you use lettuce, you need to microwave it first, in a cup of water, or soak it in boiling water to break down the cellulose.

Having a hard time getting a picture of him. He stays out when I go to the tank but when I get the camera he hides. I have had him over 6 months.

he eats formula 1 and 2 flakes and frozen, new life spectrum marine forumula, frozen mysis, ocean nutrition algae green and red on a clip, and I just started adding gracilaria into the mix because I was told it was good for the new powder blue tang I added to the 200 gallon tank.

His tank mates are 2 fire fish, a fairy wrasee and a scooter blenny they are in a 72 gallon tank and have been together ever since I got him, he was the last one added

water paramaters are salinity 1.025 ammonia 0 nitrates 0 and nitrates 0, calcium is 480 mg is 1300, phos is 0 and alk is 10. I just had all of these tested at the LFS yesterday and I just tested again this morning. Im planning on adding more corals to the tank in the next few weeks and wanted to make sure my water params are stable so I have been testing daily and taking to the lfs weekly.

I don't see anything obvious. Sometimes they do get a bit duller color as they get older. Sort of depends how much though. The only other things I can think of is swimming room. A 72 is a bit small for a FF. Is it packed with rocks, or is there room for him to swim. Also, they naturally pick at rocks all day, so if there isn't anything growing on them, I could see that being an issue. Finally lighting, they are a big eyed fish and like other big eyed fish, don't always appreciate bright light. So, there should be some hiding places to escape from the light. Did you move any rocks recently? Also, the fish don't sound like types that would be aggressive to him, but anything is possible, they can be kind of wimpy actually  Otherwise, I'm out of ideas, pics might help, or might not....

He is on the smaller side, but if size you think the issue is I could always move him to the 220 but there is a pbt in there and that may cause mroe of an issue. I got a pic but I am getting an error trying to upload it from my phone. I dont think he is very old but posible.
The tank is not stacked with rocks and it is a bow front so he swims the front of the tank A lot because my rocks are set back and the tank is only stacked maybe halfway up.

he has plenty of hiding spaces and I have not seen any aggressionthe fairy and him actually swim together quite a bit. I am looking at other pictures online of foxfaces and the only ones I see that are colored like that are ones that are associated with fin rot but his fins look fine

Is this a one spot juvinile? Could the spot be developing? I have only had a Lo, not a one-spot. Not sure if the spot develops with age.
