This morning shortly after the lights in the tank turned on my foxface swam out and layed down on the sandbed for about 30 seconds. Throughout the day he was hiding behind the rocks and pretty much not moving. I was looking behind the rocks for him and it looke like he was dead. I moved a few rocks and was going to take him out but he started moving around. Now he settled near one of the rocks in the front in clear view. His coloring is all mottles and he is breathing fast. Is there anything that I can do or is me pretty much done for? My water parameters are fine and my other fish are fine and acting normal as usual. I havent done or added anything to the water.

Is he eating? Soak your food in garlic.

I've had him for about a month. Mine gets mottled sometimes too like when he comes out of a cave, but his behavior is not the usual. It looks like he has no energy as well.

The only thing I can think of is that he just got beat up and it stressed him out majorly. I also have a sailfin tang a kole tang, a orange shoulder tang, and 2 clowns. Ive seen the kole tang pick on him from time to time but I really dont know. I had a coral beauty angel a while back. He was my 4th fish after the clowns and the OS Tang. He died out of nowhere as well. He was just hiding in the rocks all day and died the next day. This was about 3 months ago. And my water parameters were fine then too, so I dont know what it could be. And my other fish besides the two have been very healthy. Eating like pigs and everything.

Hey! Foxface Rabbitfish will camoflauge themselves when freaked out and at night. Leave it be. It's only been in the tank for a month? It's still getting adjusted. It'll be ok. Here's a link to the FOTM I did on them. http://www.3reef.com/forums/fish-month/one-spot-foxface-rabbitfish-fotm-may-2009-a-64230.html

The are usually not agressive and pretty dosile, but can hold their own when provoked. If he's eating and pooping normally, then I say give it time.

Sorry I just read where you wrote it wasn't eating. Have you tried seaweed sheets? It may have been caught wild and is not sure of the prepared foods you are feeding it. If it wasn't wating at all, it would probably be dead by now. I'm sure it's pecking at something.
