3" sps frag dove into the sand yesterday.. tips are white where it buried.. is this something that will progress or will it recover.. I can see the pores where the polyps used to be. Im tempted to cut off the white parts.

Watch it and see, should recover, if not remove the tips if the bleaching progresses.

I would never put SPS in the sand...Becuase bleaching is can be cuased by lack of light and high nitrates and other things, but they should always be on the rock.

I've had that happen too - the SPS recovered itself. Good luck!~

I have had that happen as well due to my wrecking ball of a sea urchin. Give it a few days, it should be ok.

I believe it was an accident by the OP

anyways, if it has been in there for a 1-2 days or less it will be okay. a week is likely tissue death, and beyond a week is likely tissue and polyp death.

either way, it should recover and regrow in a few weeks, or else just come back if the polyps are still alive
