The only reason I can see is to keep the return from being visible.

That would work, or you could just have a stand pipe coming out of a smaller area. That way the tank can be against the wall and you don't have to worry about any leaking.

The return section, in the main tank is only as large as it is because I didn't want to crack the bottom, drilling too close the the walls. But I think I will drill the hole & then add the return section(black walls) close to the standpipe, minimizing the space the return section takes up.

I was also trying to hide plumbing so you wouldn't see it. That's why it's black.

I was thinking. You could leave it the way you have it and let the water flwo over the baffle. Just like Matt's tank.

That works. I think I'll do that & then i can have it up against the wall. Water will flow out of the return(standpipe) & flow into the box; when water reaches a certain level, it flows over the baffle and into the main part of the tank.

Yeah, really all you need is a bulkhead drilled in the side.

I will post pics of my 40breeder frag tank sometime soon.

I don't have the return plumbed how I want it, but it works until I get the tee plumbed off my return for the display tank.

Right now I have a mj1200 with a fitting into a piece of PVC and various pieces of tubing, and then to a U tube return nozzle. Not pretty, but effective.

Yeah I was going to go with a side bulkhead, but I was trying to have plumbing to directly beneath tank rather than behind. trying to keep it in the cabinet. Although I would still like to see your setup, horkn. Suggestions & comments are welcome.
