i am a little hesitant to place my blue favia frag onto my reef because when i received the frag it had green hair algae and bubble algae on it. What should i do. I know that these algae could spread to my rock and over take my tank:(

scrape off as much as possible and rinse it with salt water before you put it in...

if you have high nutrients, algae may grow anyway. If not, then it should not be a problem. If you have an effective cuc, they will take care of it...

using an exacto blade scrape the plug clean and use a tooth brush to finish it off, then rinse it off really good and it will be fine. Watch it and if you see more growing take it out and clean it again.

That is why I usually remove anything I am putting in my tank from the plug if at all possible. allot of times if the piece has over grown the plug I will toss it into my frag tank, then I have two for the price of one.

Do it out of the water if possible, because bubble algae will spread into GHA if it pops im pretty sure.

If the parameters are right in your show tank it should subside and not spread. Algae can appear in any tank without being introduced. But I do agree that you should remove as much as possible before placing it in the tank.

It'll spread, but not into GHA; that would be the weirdest, most instant evolution ever. It'll just become more bubble algae.

QT all your frags and it wont be an issue. Can you remove the coral from the plug and remount it? thats the best way. I have two frags with bryopsis that I want to get rid of for that reason, i dont want it to infect my tank, and I can rid them of the bryopsis.

i made this mistake and i am paying for it now but i am getting it undercontrol i didnt have any macro algae so i put some in my sump to suck up phosphates i fell behind on my water changes and that was the cause so make sure you take the extra time to get it off as best as possible
