Frag ?

Should spa frags be healed before you buy them? I was checking some out but they are fresh cut.

Yes, the transfer between system usually kills them since the parameters are different and the coral is stressed.

 

Well a there's a fellow trying to sell some after admitting they were just fresh cut so I'm not interested any more. I thought I had read somewhere that the frags needed to heal completely before transfering. Thanks for comfirmations.

 

how long do sps frags need to start healing because i cut a piece off my bali green slimmer and it grew like a 1/2 inch taller but never started to like cover the little rock I glued it to.

 

Myself I try to avoid frags that show zero new growth over the glue. Roughly 1-2 months is ideal for me, but the norm seems to be like 2 weeks.

Guess it all depends on the cost of the coral, and the type of coral.

A Montipora frag, 2 weeks is fine with me. Millepora, maybe alright as well, but most others I am not going to risk it.

LPS at least 2 weeks minimum. I have more LPS frags melt when I purchased them within 2 weeks of fragging compared to sps.
