Ok, I have never really fragged on purpose meaning a piece of green ora birdsnest broke off I planted it down and it grew. I want to purposly frag or take a mushroom off of a rock. The rock is very thick so a chisel wouldnt work and it is a major piece in my tank. I am just basically wondering how I would go about getting some off of the rock and onto plugs. They are rodactis mushrooms btw.

most people would just tell you to loop off the base. and secure the top of it to the plug with some kind of mesh.

You can take a piece of tubing and start a siphon, then suck the mushroom up into the tube, use a razor blade and cut the mushroom as close to the rock as possible. Blow through the tube and the mushroom will come out. Then cut him through the middle as many times as you like.

As sostoudt suggested, you can hold a piece to a rock with some mesh and a rubber band. Or alternatively you can try your luck at superglue.

Mushrooms will already spread on their own btw, they can be rather invasive – just a heads up. Good luck with your tinkering.

I have never seen them hurt anything - zoa's included.

Tangster use to (probably still does) refer to them as the cockroach of the reef-tank.....he was/is right. Hairy mushrrom can eat a fish - I lost a clown to one and was taken by surprise......but they don't effect corals

Here is how i frag mushrooms...I wait until they are big(atleat 3-4 inches) and i cut the base of the rock.

I take it out of the water..get a bowl of water(fresh salt water) and i will take it, and use my hobby knife and cut it into 3-4 different shrooms, i cut it down the middel with every seperate little frag of shroom getting a bit of mouth(if you dont do this, it wont live)

This is a way of getting them to spread alot faster and it usually will turn into a full circle within a month(atleast for me)
