Do you need something that big? I have never fragged before but it seems like a clean cut- like from a sharp knife- is better when it comes to fleshy object? Am I wrong?

I'll probably use an xacto knife.

You have to cut the plug it sits on otherwise your Paly will not be attached to anything and will probably melt. You can use an exacto to cut the flesh first but I have fragged this way for years and rarely if ever loose one. The cutter in the picture just has a similar head on it to the one I use. The one I have is the size of a pair of pliers. I will take a pic of it tomorrow and post it so you can see what I mean. It basically has a blade on top and a flat piece on the bottom.;)The plug and or rock is much softer then you think and clips easily.

I use both methods being discussed, if they are growing on a very flat plug and i'm looking to cut one polyp then I sometimes use a brand new flat razor first cutting it's connection to the rest of the colony and then very carefully and slowly removing the foot from the frag plate. I then place a very small dot of glue on the new plug and using tweasers placing the polyp on the dot of glue.

2nd method is using a pair of cutters but I have found that it sometimes does damage to the colony of it dosen't breakk right

3rd method and the best of them all is my prize possession the reef keeper band saw, this thing rocks, you can under cut, zig zag, you can do anything you want.

Ask for a reef keeper saw for Christmas!
