I want to start up a fraging tank i would start it in a 10 Gallon Box tank but i don't know what kind of filter i would need and if there are any shelf's i can make in the tank to make it easier to keep them in?

any advice what i should do!?!?!?

Also what kind of lights would you put on them and or what are the cheapest but best long lasting lights?

For a 10 gallon frag I would run it off the main tank if I could. One pump with a grvity return to the sump would do it. For lighting – simple PC fixture would suffice. 10 gallon will not take much, 65 watt’s would be a lot. Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation is all about frags and how to go about it – check out the site, might help you a great deal.

Most successful frag tanks are shallow (like a baby swimming pool) – I have seen the 4’ swimming pool’s set up with pendents a few feet over head and they rock with results !

Edit – if I recall Graf use to use a BBQ style rotisserie. They drilled the tank and installed a wheel of shelf’s (picture an old water mill wheel). That slowly rotates the corals – more bang for the buck if you will. I think a 10 gallon would have 8-9 frags on an 8 shelf rotating set up --- very nice !!

The problem is i cant run it from my tank i have a 29 gallon biocube and its to much tubing going over computer stuff so i would rather have it on its own filter.

For the light what do you mean a PC Light like a normal Light on for 8 hours a day?

Okay. I was going to put a hang on filter on it cause that sounds the best.

i think if i was doing it i would go a little bigger mostly for space and that a 10 gal tank wouldn't be very stable on its own. i think you'd be happier in the end doing a 20 long and using the 10 for a sump on it. not that it isn't possible to do it with a 10
