If you don't want it in the long run take it back now IMO. The longer you keep it, the longer you will push the limits and try "one more addition" to see how things go. Catch him now and get some credit, and save some money on your next purchase!!!

Still a pretty cool find no matter what you decide to do!!

When and if you catch it, let me know how you do it.

Have one in my main tank I would like to return to LFS.

Rarely see it and worry about what it is eating...:-/

could try a bucket with some meaty foods in a media bag and place in a bucket with lid and small hole in lid. like 3-5" wide and see if it goes in.......

I thought I could catch him a big piece of squid. He just about jumps out of the tank at feeding time so baiting will bring him around, the problem will be keeping him caught. I have a big net, but I think he (I say he, but I can’t tell) will jump out. The catch could be great fun. We really do like him, but he just about looses his skin when he smells food, so Coral Reefer’s comment about moving rocks around is a concern of mine. He is about 6” long now, how big will he get and how fast will he grow? I heard 24 to 37” long. How wide would that make him?

I say keep it and make your tank an aggresive lion/eel reef tank

i say stick to your original plan for your reef tank. If the eel disrupts your ultimate plan or causes you to rethink your design then id say take it back or start a whole new tank for the eel.

I'd say keep it... it wouldn't be bad karma because it is expected to get hitchikers... you just got a surprise one from the higher end of the spectrum!

I would say do your research. If you still want him then set up another tank for him and go on with your reef tank. If not trade him in for credit. Either way he is a hitchhiker. That means he is yours :)
