How strong of a pump are you using? Did you heat the water up to tank temperature before adding the salt? Did you add all the salt at once or did you add some, let it mix for a couple of minutes, then add some more, let mix, and so on?

It's probably coming out of your tap fairly cold this time of year. I'm much further South than you and my RO/DI unit hasn't come close to speeding up yet. (In the Spring, Summer, and early Fall your RO/DI unit will pump more pure water, quicker, while creating less wastewater).

Since you're doing a fill for the first time, some of the cloudiness is likely small particles from new sand. However, adding salt to cold water causes a lack of dissolution which will go away once the water gets to warmer temperatures.

When you mix saltwater for waterchanges in the future, make sure you've heated the water to match your tank water, always add salt to water as opposed to adding water to salt, don't dump it in all at once (you can cause precipitation events), and keep it stirred well with a decent water pump.

Tropic Marin is an extremely good salt, imo it doesn't matter how you mix it it always mixes clear, i have never had an issue with it. i mix mine straight from the fresh run ro/di water. no heater.

i agree with inwall75 about most salts since i have had issues with other brands of salts not mixing clear. or leaving residue but never Tropic marin no matter how i mix it
