Newb mistake number 1. (or 2,3... hehe)
I didn't think about it since it was just in there when I bought the tank. Didn't realize it slowed things down. +1 for you guys.

    Umm..
So I won't be getting the nice 36inch lighting system that I had my eyes on.. Seems it went WAY up in price so I'm gonna have to settle with my 24" and mostly hang it in the middle... Think 65watts for 30g long - will be aight for a few months? Maybe 3 months?

Apparently I'm wrong on the size too...

    36" x 12" x 18" = 40g not 30..
Back to the lights - I'm gonna swap out my 24 for a 36 dual which is only going to cost me 29.99 since i'll be swapping my current one too.

    anywho,
It's half filled now - should finish it tomorrow then throw some pics up.

    It's Filled!

    Water and half sand.
Tomorrow, we are adding the rock and the other half of sand.

Actual sand total is 52lbs - rock total is 44lbs

Is that sand black? Just can't really tell. I like the look of it though.

Yup, it's black! The remaining sand is white which, when mixed, will give us a salt and pepper look. :)

    Hey Guys/Gals,
    Need some more advice...

Here are the two options I'm looking at on the lights.. Seems every time I try to catch a break, something happends and someone wants to jack the price to 200 on me... Unfortunate for me, I'm not rich...

so here are my options right now -
Aquarium Lightings - T5 Lighting and T6 Lighting
Aquarium Lightings - Power Compact Lighting - Free Gift with Light Fixture Purchase

I'm a fan of PC's ... but both are close in price and I can afford them.

    ty in advance reeferz!

If I were you I would go with the Power Compact lighting.. They put off a lot of wattage for a small area.. Our tank is 26gal and we have the compact lighting and love it... One day we will get metal highlight..lol.. thats a long long way off... Good luck!! BTW your tank looks good.. I like the black sand... as well as your crazy back ground..! :D

Cycle is in full swing - wife said I should update it with a pic every few days..

So here is day 5. It's still missing about 15lbs of rock and that's cause it's nice and currrrrred and I don't want to kill off all the wild polyps that are growing on it so I wanna hold off till the tank is stable.

    Cycle, Day 5

    P.S.
Wife said our cat, Pepper, is keeping an eye on the tanks while I'm at work......
