damn for 25 bucks!??!?! thats a steal, i just spent 90 on a very very nice painted frogfish. I noticed some people talking about frog fish eating and what not. Just a FYI frogfish can go 2 weeks without any food. Frogfish can also die from over feeding or overfeeding can lead to rapid growth as in doubling in size within a week. The best feeding schedule ive come up with so far is a good meal every other day, and somtimes ill skip two days. U kind of want his belly full but you dont want him to be too fat to crawl around. Frogfish do not require daily feeding though and infact ,...... daily feeding for theis guys is bad. Also pairing a frogfish up with a Lionfish.... The frogfish WILL eat the lion fish and they are immune to stone fish poisons. Including the lions. Frogfish are really only safe when kept alone. Some witnesses say their frogfish has swallowed other fish equal to its own size. Nature intended the frogfish to be the ultimate stalk predator / ambusher and they will get your ****. Promise.

Also Dustin its best to keep that little guy on frozen silverside to avoid any freshwater bacteria or viruses that might come along with them. This is the golden bit of advice that i wish i had years ago though..... and please please lepase take this advice. Go buy a product called Zoe by kent marine. Soak your silversides in this product for 10 mins before feeding or overnight. What happens is thiamanase is rich in most food sources and it breaks down vitamin b1 / thiamine. As you feed your frogfish those silversides hes taking in rich thiamanase but not so much thiamine so over time he will develope a thiamine (b1) shortage. He may be able to live with deplete b1 but he will be unhappy, not as colorful and not as active. Its the number one reason peoples frogfish die or their skin begins to turn black and crusty. Infact its a good idea to feed all your fish with zoe soaked food because any / all fish can suffer from thiamine shortages. It can alos lead to things like legions, growth defects and generally a handicapped fish.

If he still has it, I think he's got a regimen down pat. I mean, this thread is pretty old...

It may be old but if someone els is looking for help on frogfish they might ron across this. And..... not to say anything negitive about anyone but i know some people sned years and years and never regimen down. They spend years and years and years failing at keeping predatory fish because they dont give their fish vitamin b1. Even if its a old thread and even if he has some good plan going he still may not know about thiamanase and thiamines .

I lost that fish a long time ago, it developed a bouyancy problem and started floating around at the top of the tank. Tried a couple of things to help fix this problem but they did not help.

As for feeding I agree with you that daily feedings are not good, I feed, siversides, every other or every third day depending on how the fish looked. The mollies I spoke of were converted to saltwater, which eliminated the freshwater parasites. As far as feeding the mollies they were treats that I feed to the lions (10+ inches long each) and frogfish (5 inch long) to allow them to actively hunt, not an every day food.

Also I did not have any problems with the frogfish getting along with the lionfish, probably because of the size of each.

Thanks for your advice, I'm sure it will help people who have frogfish or are thinking about getting a frogfish.

    Dustin

aww i was hoping your guy was still alive. Yea ive heard about some frogfish getting gas bloats from possible air bubbles or exposure to air in teh handling process.... but it seems they can form somtimes for no reason? Are you getting another one?
