it may hurt you, but you may effect the coral also. The oils from your skin, lotion you use, hand sanitizer, soap, ect. It could possibly transfer from your hand and hurt the coral.

Oh yes! I know that... that's why I don't purposely touch the coral lol and only put my hand in the tank when I absolutely need to (like if a coral fell or I need to scrape away coralline or something) and only after rinsing my hands and forearms with freshwater.

when i first started a tank 6 years ago, before it blew up from hurricanes, my frogspawn, hammer, and anvil all touched and nothing happened.

I was about to ask the same question. I'm assuming a torch can be thrown in the fray too?

I have hammer and frogspawn touching with no problems at all. I also touch them with my hands with no ill effect. Only time I have heard of hammer corals stinging human flesh was when they had a cut on their hand.

it is not such a big deal for YOU to touch them (unless you are allergic) but it can be a big deal to them. They can rip, tear, and receed causing infections to take over

No. Torch corals you need to be waaayyy more careful with! The torch I have accidentally touched my hammer and it was NOT happy at all!!! It has touched my frogspawn, but I didn't see anything happen but moved it anyway. Torches has a way stronger sting than a hammer or frogspawn, eventhough they are in the same family. I hear that sometimes it can work but then other times the torch will kill a hammer or spawn. Me personally, I am leaving lots of room for my torch!
