So I bought this 4-5 branched frogspawn the other day. Looks to be doing well, except today I noticed what looked like 2 little reddish "strings" coming out of the mouth on one of the heads. I look closer and saw the same on another head. Now they're gone...so no pics. It was in medium water flow, so I moved it to a lower water flow area in the sand bed. Any ideas?

Also, I've read to target feed and not target feed every so often. I can't seem to find any concrete info on this...should I target feed? How often? And what?

Last but not least, on the "main" branch, there are about about 3-4 tiny heads, which look like new ones trying to pop out...will these grow larger? Thanks so much!!!

The one on the left is the one I'm talking about...the one on the right is a two headed frag from a friend..woohoo!

First of all, they are torch coral not frogspawn. I do not "target feed" but I used feeding tube to throw fish food at it when I feed my fish. They will grow larger.

Nothing to worry about it's just expelling waste. If I can find it I'll post a pic of my torch doing the same thing. It freaked me out too! :)

    Yes, very similar.

And I've searched for differences in "Torch" and "Frogspawn." From what I can tell, torches only have one round head per tentacle, where as Frogspawn have branching "hammers?" Is that correct? If so, both of these branch.

Either way, do I need to "target feed?" If so, with what and how often? And will those little tiny heads grow out if they like the water params?

There both from the euphy family....
I don't target mine, it's usually blown out to about the size of a tennis ball and manages to 'catch' some food when I feed the fish. Also if you have nassarius dont be suprised if you someday find one sticking out of the corals 'mouth'. Apparently they can smell the food in the coral and just bulldoze in. I've seen it once or twice.

It was buggin me so I looked myself and above poster is correct. It's a Torch but that o.k. cuz it's still cool and like I said b4, frogs, torch and hammers all are from the same family. Growth will depend on your water params, flow and lighting. If they're bad it'll die, if they're good it'll probably just live and not much more but if they are tuned in you'll see noticable growth over the following months. Good luck with it, euph's are cool and interesting corals imo.

Not a problem, if you target feed them they do that all the time. If you're seen my tank you know I like frogspawns, I have all different varities. I bought mine just like you, 3-4 heads....now less than 2 yrs later, they all have 20-30 heads plus lots of new baby heads growing and I never target fed them, they get whatever they can when I feed the fish. They like slight movement, not direct flow.
