Frustrated!!!! Sump help please!

It took me forever to figure out the sump and get my skimmer to stop overflowing. So I finally set up my first sump this weekend and it's been runing since 11pm last night. what has me frustrated is the water is not crystal clear yet. I have an aqueon model 1 with a coralife skimmer and eheim return pump. what I had was the skimmer HOB and a canister full of carbon and GFO it was crystal clear in 2-3 hours. i mean crystal almost like there was no glass in the way. What might i be doing wrong with my sump?

 

did you put one of those filter socks on the supply line of the sump? i had some chunky stuff floatin around in my tank so i put the sock on and tada! no more chunky stuff.

 

I've noticed on mine that it is not like when I had a canister on my freshwater setup. I had lots of fiber pads and sponges as well as bags of carbon or phosphate absorb rock in addition to the ceramic bio filtration, all in the canister. Now my sump top tray just has one fiber pad. I am thinking of adding some bags or more pads to polish as well.

 

thats what i did! I added a filter sock with some seagel stuff that use to keep my tank clear before i put it on top of the sponge where the \skimmer spits out the water but its taking long. I feel like addding my canister again
