My 5 turbo snails have all died in 6 weeks. They fall over, I fix them, then they don't move for a week and die. They look great, but my other snails (little guys and the cone ones) never seem to tip over and none of the original ones I bought have died yet. I heard Turbos don't like warm water so my 78 degree tank may have something to do with it. I love the fact they ate lots of algae, but I'm going to look for other algae eating snails that don't die in 6 weeks!

I have Mexican Turbo's in my tank, at 78.6*, and they don't seem to have a problem with it. I have seen a couple go upside down, and thinking they were like Nerites, I grabbed my squirter and proceeded to flip them. Then one day, I saw one fall, and before I could get to him, he had flipped himself back over. I needed to see that again...so I grabbed him and placed him, away from the glass and rocks in a nice wide open area, and flipped him. He righted himself in like 30 seconds. My point is, maybe I have magical Turbos...or, something else is killing yours. Temp flux, salinity changes (do you have an ATO?), high Nitrates, etc. I have my temp controlled via RKL and an ATO so those stay in line. Just throwing out ideas.

I have never seen any turbos flip themselves. I think yours are magic.

As for the warm water, it depends on where they were collected.

I never have luck with turbo's. I had all 4 die within 6 months. They would fall off the glass, I would turn them back over but they just sit there till they die. IDK why. I have hundreds of other snails, (cerith, astrea, nerites, nassarius) all doing great.

I had 4 one died of mysterious causes but the other 3 are thriving. I have seen one of mine flip its self right side up after it fell. Mine must be magic too lol. There must be something else going on with your tank. My temp is a constant 78 and they are still alive eating what they can. :) I have to supplement seaweed algae because they do such a great job!

They might have been picked on by a fish. I have a Blue Spot Jaw that likes to give them a nice shot to knock them down, then hits them once more while they're down. He is a mean little guy.
