Don't use acrylic as dividers in your sump. If it's a glass tank I'm assuming silicone will not adhere to acrylic panels. I found out the hard way when I built mine.

I have a 90gal myself & used a 40gal to build a sump/refuge. If you have any questions ask away. You can also look at my 90gal thread. I have a lot of details with pics if you want any ideas.. :)

KC, post some pretty drawings of your sump design/plans!!
I want to see what you have in mind.

As for light I have a CFL (sp?) Curly fluorescent flood light is what it is, and my groves and chaeto are all doing super fine. Chaeto needs trimming every 10 or 13 days.
I got the bulb at walmart... save money, live with better sump lighting ;)

Let us see what yo had in mind. I won't make fun of your doodles (It's not a promise though! :p)

Salt Creep, you too post pics of your design in your own thread. If you don't have one, make it. I'll keep an eye on both. Uploads pics of your design as well.

PS: KC, drilling isn't hard. Start slow and stay slow. This is one of the cases when faster and harder can cause cracks. So, for a job well done, take your time, do it right. The payoff will come in due time and you'll enjoy the results.

    I know... I couldn't help it. :p

I'll do a drawing and post it. But no making fun!

I can do a flood light - sounds easy enough! I don't shop at Wal Mart :) but I'm sure any hardware store has them.

I watched a video on drilling and I feel pretty confident about it! But it still freaks me out. I think I might do it today....

Kacy, How could you not shop at Wal-mart? That place is GREAT....they have almost evrything. LOL Anyways, good luck on the drilling! Make sure you use a battery drill with a clutch on it and have someone there to keep water on the hole/bit for cooling. Or if you have plumbers putty you can build a little damn around the hole to keep the water in there. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

    Ouch!

I have my reasons for no Wal Mart - I won't get into them here. LOL

Okay, in the video they kept constant cool water on the area where they were drilling. I have a template I'm going to duct tape down onto the tank, and the template has high sides so it should hold some water in there. That's the plan anyways! And I have no idea what a clutch is...but I do have a battery drill.

I have my suspicions about Wal-Mart too, but I still shop there :-/

Does your battery drill have a dial on it that is towards the chuck end? (the chuck is where you insert the drill bit, phillips bit ect.)

If so, your drill has a clutch on it. Make sure you have that set to the lowest setting or number so that if the drill bit "grabs" or gets caught on the glass as you are drilling, it will keep the drill from spinning and cracking the tank. ;)
