Ok so I have had my 40 gal sump/fuge on my 90 gal for about a month, and so far NO chaeto will grow it just keeps dieng.
Have went through 3 sandwich bags of it so far here's the deal.
The first time i had a bag of chaeto, and a bag of ulva lettuce, being new to the fuge system I bought a 60 watt flood light 6500k, it all died in about 4 days, cleaned it all out, bought another light.
So this time i get a 75 watt 6500k flood light, new bag of chaeto well it lasted about 2 weeks and died. At this point im determined and thought maybe the fuge was too big for just 1 light( only 20 gal is segregated for the fuge) and I put 1 of my 48 inch t5 strip on which has a 10k white with a 420 blue, here it is 5 days later and its looks very light green with some turned white, lost its coarse feel to almost wet spaghetti. So is it possible I had too much flow? I turned it down thismorning to see if it will help, BTW running it on the 12 on/12 off reverse DT hours. Any reason this might happen?

Forgot to mention 4 inch dsb, live rock, and a large green brittle. All water params are in check except nitrate around 10, and still running my canister until the fuge kicks in

I think you were killing it with the flood lights. They aren't meant to grow stuff, as such they make no promises. Some people find brands that work some people don't.

what are your nitrates and phosphates at?

I am using 2 75 watt 6500K flood lights on my 40 gallon fuge which are on 24/7 and my Cheato grows so fast I can not give it away fast enough so I really do not think its the flood lights.

how hot does your fuge light get? too much heat can kill the chaeto.
