My Fuge is a seprate 29 gallon glass aquarium, it sits 8" higher then my sump and sits right next to it. I have a 145gph power head pumping water from the sump to the fuge. Then a tube siphoning water out at the same rate its being pumped in at. My question is, is this not enough flow through the fuge turning over water, or can it be very low turnover rate with a small powerhead in the fuge moving water around.

After DSB and not filling fuge to top there will prolly be only 15-20 gallons of water in fuge.

Hoss you have a heck of a mess in the waiting there my advice to you would be drill the fuge at the top and put a bulkhead in for drainage to sump. There is no way that you can equalize out water flow from a pump to match water out via a siphon especialy from fuge full of algaes .. And about 30 GPH is all you want passing through the fuge ..

I have been testing it for about a week now and I HAVE matched the flow via siphon tube. It maintains tank level perfect, also the 145gph powerhead with a 30" 3/4" tube on it restricts flow down to under 90 gph it seems pretty slow.

O.K Good luck with that hope the siphon is never broken by a power outage and or algae plugs it up ): I'd at least use a HOB overflow to decrease the risk of a flood and even then these devices fail also.. Water temp salinity levels all effect siphon and flow rates .. Also as bacterial slime build up inside the siphon tube will change the flow rates of the siphon as will calcium and carbonate build up and levels in solution .

So just drill the 29 add a bulkhead and still pump in water same way?

Why pump it allow the same gravity that is sucking the water from the main tank to the sump simple suck it to the fuge also.. Just tee off of the drain from tank to sump . I always size my fuges to 1/10 the main tanks size then I flow the sumps volum through the fuge to the sump 1x per hr. lets say a 100 or 90 gal tank I use a 10 gal sump with 3 or4 " of sand and then I pass about 10GPH through the fuge .

Ya that sounds ideal but my setup will not alow me to split flow from main tank. My display is a 55g, my sump is a 50g, the sump sits not under the tank but threw the wall and behind the tank about a tank size lower then the display, and the 29 gallon sits next to the sump. Maybe ill just have to look into a beter design

    Forget slime!

I have all sorts of SPONGES trying to decrease flow! Any spot where there is just the right amount of movement, sponges will appear. I've had them in the HOB returns, bottom of the sump, -everywhere!
They'll multiply like crazy and block ANY siphon line- trust me on that- especially if you are an overfeeder like, err, me...:-[

Drill that puppy, or better yet, have someone who has done it enough to be fairly competent do it for you.;)
    good luck,
