    hey guys,
so i need to set up a refugium for copepods so my mandarin has a good supply of food. i just have a 20g (long) tank, how big should it be?
i read that there are some that hang on the back and some that can be inside the tank, inside the tank would be cool.

any help would be greatly appreciated, i really know nothing about refugiums.

Try to find some tigger pods to buy you a few days or so. It does take some time to build up a good pod collection. One thing you can do is cut up a lot of pvc pipes into 2 or 3 inch tubes. Add them to the fuge and you have just provided plenty of hiding spots for the pods and you'll not have to buy LR for the fuge, saving some $ in the wallet. HTH

I hang on the back fuge works but it not necessary by any means. Do you have a sump?

no sump either, just a skimmer and a HOB filter.
im going to pick up some pods today to add to the tank for a quick fix while i sort out the fuge details.

I would get an overflow box, and do a fuge as a sump.

To provide food for a mandarin, I would recommend you go as big as you can fit under your stand.

Agree with Blackraven. The sump and fuge will help your tank in many ways... not just pods...

    You'll need the following...

    A U-Tube Overflow
A 10 gallon tank (or the largest that will fit in your tank)
    A small return pump
    Live sand and Live Rock
    Chaeto
A Home Depot cheap Aluminum light fixture and a 6500K Compact Flourscent

I'd hit craigslist and get it all cheap.

you have the 20long as a fuge or as a display?
either way, you should have a DSB and maybe some chaeto or a rock pile

I don't know your situation, but here is something to consider.

Use the 20 long as your sump, and by a bigger tank as your DT.

    Just a thought!

haha, i'd love to but there isn't any room left in my apartment.

sadly i started off with a 40g freshwater tank and everything in there is doing so well it would be sad to get rid of it...even though it is pretty boring compared to a reef ;D

I'd keep it simple and just get a 10 gallon tank for your fuge.
