In my experince my sump with no lights had ton of pods. If you have cheato than I would run them reverse from your tank lights to help keep the PH stable. I currently turn mine on about an hour after they turn off and for about 8 hours. Hope this helps.

Im not sure I get your Q? Pods dont need light. But Macro/micro algae does. The best schedule for a refug, is what ardo_ski stated, on a reverse lighting schedule. Luna

I can see my pods 24/7.. the rocks are crawling with them. I have to usually stare at one spot a little while to see something move. There's always a bunch of babies on the glass.

Reverse light cycle from your display tank. Most turn the fuge lights on about 1 hr before the display tanks lights go out. That way the algae has time you perk up and start taking in nutrients before the main lights go out.

The light schedule on your fuge will depend on the macro. Your pods/microfauna will be fine regardless of light schedule.
