have a 10 gallon fuge that has been running for about 6-8 months and has about 4" sand bed? I was transfering fuge to new tank last night and cracked it. Well I got a new tank and getting ready to transfer stuff to new one but can I reuse the old sand? Thanks

Is it aragonite sand or is it just silica sand? If its araganite sand then it slowly adsorbs phosphates over time and shouldn't be re-used. If its just silica sand (play sand) then you can simply rinse it and re-use it.

If you aren't sure which it is, do a vinegar test on it. Put some sand in a container, a little bit of household vinegar. If it bubbles its araganite (calcium based) and if it doesn't bubble then its silicate sand (silica based).
