That didn't answer his other question. I don't know if it makes any difference if the DT is already set up or not.

you can add them in at anytime. ideally you want to make the dt/fuge at the same time for cycle purposes. I would get it going & add to the fuge a little at a time just to keep from having a potential mini cycle, and/or what you add to the fuge get from an established tank.

the only problem i would have is with sand. everything else wouldn't be too much of a problem. could i set it up as a tank, then when its done cycling hook it up to my DT?

What size sump fige tank, size fuge area & how much of what are you planning on adding? This is for your current tank? If were not talking a bug tank or fuge I would just add a piece each week. Sand w/set, wait a couple weeks add LR, etc/

I did that with mine, when I set up I didnt have the amount of rock I wanted. I ordered 15lbs of rock rubble from brs and added a couple pounds a week to get where I wanted.

well the tank is a biocube 14, and i was thinking a 20 for the sump/fuge.

Can you explain that a little better please? thanks.

You can drill a new hole for the drain, and place the sump at a lower elevation. Or use a pump to pump out the water into the fuge, and use another pump to return it. But I don't think that's ideal.

Not really sure if that answers your question.
