    It supposedly keeps your pH stable. I haven't tested to check..just what I have heard from a few different sources.

    wow you guys are fast!!! So if my main tank lights whent out at 8:30 PM would the fuge come on say 9:00PM to 6:00 AM?

    I have mine set to come on as soon as my DT lights go off so there is no time for complete darkness

    my fuge is set from 7 pm to 7 am.. my lights are actinics 10am - 7pm and 10k 11am - 6pm

    Some macro algae requires 24 hours of lighting to prevent sporulation. i.e. "Going Sexual"

    +1 on this.. Thats why I would use cheato and mangroves to prevent this.. :)

    Just start out simple...small tank..chaeto..light..little bit of flow..and you got yourself a 'fuge
