lets make a collective thread just about fun facts that we learn throughout this hobbie.

could be something that is simple like "The oceans contain 99 percent of the living space on the planet."

or something a bit more complex like "Since the architecture and chemistry of coral are very close to human bone, coral has been used to replace bone grafts in helping human bones to heal quickly and cleanly."

dont have to be very difficult but just simple fun facts so we can go to our friends in conversation and drop in a ....Fun fact!

Popcorn shrimp is NOT baby shrimp cooked too young, but is actually krill. The stuff some whales and sharks eat, and the stuff my mantis shrimp eats. :D

Oils from the orange roughy, Hoplostethus atlanticus, a deep-sea fish from New Zealand, are used in making shampoo.

who would have thought that such an odd looking fish could make something look so beautiful

    From the university of Delaware...

The deepest part of the ocean is in the western pacific ocean. An underwater gorge 7 miles deep, deeper than mt Everest is tall! Called "Challenger Deep" after a British survey ship that located it in 1951.

In 1996, the remotely operated vehicle Kaiko, operated by the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center, visited the Challenger Deep... It was consumed by a ferocious large fast moving creature that could not be clearly caught on video and made the sound of screaming jet.

Just joking, it actually recorded several marine organisms, including shrimp-like amphipods, a scale worm, a sea cucumber, and various microbes :)

Humans have only explored around 10% of the oceans

Pretty crazy that there are creatures we have no idea about

Drinking ocean water is not only a bad idea, but it may kill you.
