funny hippo tang behavior(video)

so my hippo tang is a bit of an oddball not as active as most hippos are and he definitely has some weird behaviors including this one....he is resting his nose on the tip of one rock and his tail on another in a little indent on my aquascape and he will do this for up to a half hour at a time sometimes



anyone else ever observe this or is my hippo the only weirdo out there?

 

Weird looks almost like the fish is sleeping.

 

i would of thought that too but thats not his sleeping spot

 

LOL such strange fish. I have seen them doing some crazy stuff. My buddy had one that used to sleep on his side, on a rock.

Yeah, they are crazy!

 

Mine is about 7.5inches long, and often splashes water up and out of my DT!

yea my 150 long build is a little slow, i have all the parts and pieces to have it running just waiting on the glass guy to call me back to have the holes drilled and find the time to do the plumbing

believe it or not he was actually a rescue ~6 months ago maybe less, i got him when picking up some LR from a tank breakdown of a 30 extra tall (24Lx24Hx12D) which was his residence for about 7 years and he had no where else to go so the 55 was supposed to be a temporary home until i found him a bigger one. so the day came i had found him a 450 to move into and i couldnt get him out of the tank for 2 weeks straight so i finally gave up and said screw it ill deal with it when i breakdown and start up the next tank since he wasnt showing signs of stress ich etc and was eating well....his fins were a little torn from when he was in the 30 and they've been healing up nicely since other than that hes a perfect model citizen and he really doesnt swim around much mostly perches himself places or sits right in front of my mp10 surfing the currents lol....probably habits he picked up from being crammed in such a small tank for so long

 

Those sound like reasonable ideas for the actions.

 

yea, its possible...soon enough he'll be in a nice 150....i know its not recommended to keep him in less than a 180 but considering the circumstances he'll probably do just fine considering he lived in a 30 for 7 years however this is not recommending anyone putting a fish in a smaller tank than recommended just because it has worked for my thus far doesnt mean it is true in all cases and is the exact opposite in most cases be warned or else the tang police will come kick in your doors and get you
