Future Fish List : Good or Bad...

After I have my tank cycled I'm going to start introducing my livestock, slowly of course, and wanted any insights as to if I may have any incompatabilities. I eventually want :

1 Coral Beauty Angel
1 Flame Angel
1 Blue Hippo Tang
2 Percula Clowns (ac)
2 Firefish Gobies
1 Bi-color Blenny
1 Royal Gramma
1 Jewel Damsel

These are all gorgeous fish (imo) and as far as I can tell should all be reef compatible and fairly hardy. I've heard that dwarf angels should only be kept 1 per tank, but I was hoping that with 75gallons that they would be fine. I only intend on running FOWLR for a while, and may move into some corals and stuff at a later date.

Does this list look like it will be ok for a tank my size? I definitely don't want to push it.

 

I don't know man seems like alot of fish for a 75. I've always been told the rule is one fish per 10 gallons but i might be off. Otherwise I agree with you. They are all beautiful fish.

 

i would add any angels last...also for the firefish, unless they are a mated pair they will fight once they are mature..

 

I would never put an angel in a reef tank, even the dwarfs that are considered to be "somewhat" reef safe. Once "they" "drop and separate", there's no telling what an angel will do.

 

I'd be wary of putting 2 dwarf angels in that size tank. They may not get along. I also agree that is too many fish for that size tank even for a FOWLR and especially for a reef tank. I have a 120g FOWLR with a 30g refugium and only 8 fish and my nitrates run high. You might also want to re-think the Jeweled Damsel. They get fairly large, about 8" and lose their beautiful jeweled coloration as an adult and turn a dull brown in color.

If you want a reef, I would not put any angels in a reef. Some people have luck and theirs don't knip corals. I got rid of mine, it was good for 6 months and all of the sudden decided it wanted my Frogspawn for lunch! It kept knipping and tearing apart the frogspawn. Lucky I was at home when I saw it and got him out to QT. I have alot of coin in my reef and don't need a fish to wreak havoc in my collection of corals.

 

Jeweled Damsel will eat small crustaceans and will become very aggressive. Don't keep any peaceful fish like gobies with this Damsel.

Coral Beauty will nip onlarge polyp, stony coral, and clam. Try a Lamarck's Angelfish, they're safe, I have one and they ignore other fish.

As far as your fish list goes; I would drop the damsel from your list as they are very aggressive and territorial. They will attack or harrass other tank mates and future ones and possibly kill them. Also, as mentioned above, be careful with the two dwarf angels. The may engage in battles over tank space. You may be ok, but same species tend to fight unless purchased at the same time and as juveniles. This hold true for tangs as well. You may be lucky though!

 

If you want A Damsel try a yellowtail Damselfish most least aggressive of the Damsel Clan. I have one and he is a model citizen, leaves all corals alone and ignores other fish, and very brilliant blue with a nice yellow tail.
