There are currently 5 G. Smithiis for sale on stomatopod.com

They are expensive though $60-$70 bucks! OUCH! But it is the most sought after species.

Me too, man! PM me if you have any luck finding one (or any mantis shrimp!), I'll do the same! All the LFS around here do not stock them :-/

To be honest, I'm not sure. The mantis thing hasn't caught on here yet as it has in the states (at least, not in my local area). I guess it's a supply and demand issue - nobody's really looking for them so nowhere is really stocking them.

I'm sure there are places, I have heard of shops in the UK selling peacock mantis shrimps, but getting a specific species is proving impossible. You sometimes get them hitching on live rock too, but I'm not sure how a shop would deal with that - my LFS knows that if they get one, they must call me (I might even get a freebie :p).

There may also be issues with availability, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about that to make a comment.

I'm sure if I keep trying, I'll find a cool mantis! The best method I can think of is getting one of another keeper who doesn't want it anymore...

None of my LFS stock them and even though there is easy access to them. I don't think any of my stores attempted to order one for me even though I asked. They all just said if they got one as a hitch hiker they would let me know.

I think most LFS don't carry them because they are a niche market. Also collectors are generally not out to catch mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimp are harder to catch and are not worth as much as many other species, so they only go for them when its easy.

Jwin is about the only person I have ever heard of that is anywhere close to a LFS that regularly stocks mantis shrimp.

Blue zoo aquatics has some mantis shrimp in stock as well. Slightly cheaper $50 for G. Smithii. They do have a G. ternatensis which is the largest species recommended for a 10gal, for $25. http://www.bluezooaquatics.com
