So I'm setting up a new 125 gallon reef. I will have a 2" aragonite sand bed in the display and a 6-7" RDSB in a 29 gallon under the tank.

Just wondering if the garf grunge is the best way to go in making the sand live. According to the garf site I would need 40 lbs of it for the display and i guess I would want some more for the RDSB.

Has anyone ever got bad thing in the grunge like aptasia or bubble algae or any other neusance critters or algae?

garf is a reputable company, but unless you buy plain sand there is always a risk of getting unwanted organisms. did you call and talk to a rep to find out whats what?

40 pounds?! Heck I just use a cup of live sand to seed my tanks. Do you have any local hobbiests that you could borrow a cup of sand from?

Ya, they say a pound per 3 gallons of water to seed a 2" sand bed.

That's what I would call extreme. Do you have any hobbiests nearby that you could borrow a cup of sand from?

Well how long does it take sand to "seed" I am transferring everything from my 46 over to the 125, I could move some sand as well, but the tank has only been up and running with livestock in it for 2 months.

By the time your tank is done cycling, the sand should be well seeded. I would definitely use some of the sand from your existing tank as it's got bacteria in it even though it's only a few months old. Have you seen any pods in the 46 gallon?
