Gargonian found on beach

lol i meant I wouldnt worry about stressing and killing a free coral by doing a dip. I dont do fw dips though, I use the tropic marin stuff

 

Just wanted to add, do not use FW dips for sps and CoralRX or similar or even just an diluted iodine dip will prevent heart ache in the future.

 

Why is everyone treating it differently because he found it at the beach? Aren't almost all fish and most coral, you buy at the lfs, collected from the ocean as well?

Imo you should treat it like every other addition you get from the lfs and dip it or qt it or both.

ya but you pay alot for them at the store. its free if you find it on the beach. thats why im saying dip it. if it gets stressed and dies from a dip, very unlikely, then at least you arent out any cash. I dip mine weather I pay 70 bucks or if there free and have not had any die. I guess you have to read the conversation before, someone was saying that by dipping coral causes stress and causes more harm then good, I was simply saying that if the coral is free then who cares if it gets stressed. its better then destroying your tank because you dont want to stress one coral

 

i agree 100% b4 u add anything to ur tank : qt or dip is being safe and just the smart thing to do.

Yeah, I agree with Tattooedsoul87, just dip the thing, you've got nothing to lose! Besides, I think you should always dip your stuff before introducing them into any tank. I've never had any of my livestock die from just dipping.

 

my 2 cents

I dip every new coral I put into my reef, irrespective of the source
I use Coral RX , occasionally after the 5 minutes in a plastic bucket with swirling etc
I find nothing of interest in the liquid
but on other occasions, I see things I recognise, flatworms is one, and other things I honestly do not know what they are, good, bad or indifferent

worse case scenarios are what its about for me

if a coral reacts badly to the dip - you could lose a coral
if you do not dip, and the coral is infected with a nuisance , then you could lose a full tank

I have chosen to dip all my corals, not for the benefit of that specific coral
but for the benefit of the corals that are already in the tank
