I think this subject may have been beaten to a pulp by now...but I thought why not? I have heard that it helps...and that it makes no dif etc etc. I am in the beginning phase of a 125. I would like to know what everybody thinks of adding garlic and how to ad it to your fish' diet?
FYI...I once took garlic pills on the advice of a Chinese herbal medicine Dr. to get rid of parasites I picked up in the Bahamas that my regular Dr. said I did not have. After 1 week....I was completely cured! I am a believer!

A lot of good point were made on gabba's thread regarding the use of garlic.

I think is does a great job of enhancing the feeding reponse, therefore encouraging a possibly stressed fish to eat and maintain a healthy immune system. Never heard anything negitive about it other than the lack of vampires.

+1 I use it every other day with my fish. Some theorize that it cause the fish to "taste" bad to the potential parasites, thus they do not attach to them. I don't know how true that is, but it will certainly enhance feeding response. And would agree that it does encourage timid/stressed/sick fish to feed more voraciously. Too bad coralline always beats me to the punch!;) Best of luck!

when I was treating my fish for Crypt, I ran across an article on reefkeeping explaining the Myth of Garlic. Long story short, it was proven that about the only thing it does is enhance the appeal of food for a fish. it will not cure them of anything in and of itself, only entice them to eat nutritious food.

all that said, I feel it does hold antibiotical capabilities for us and we use garlic oil drops with St. john extract as a preventative measure for my son getting ear infections. it is a Homeopathic antiobiotic. I also use it a lot my cooking for that reason.
