Well, that's because you live in Mauritius. That's the only place you can get them from and only at certain times of the year.

Yes indeed, but actually gem tang can also be found in south Africa and reunion island, My father is a proffesional fish collector for 30 years now, so obviously have been used. At the moment I have 4 species in our small stock. Here its out of season, normally the season will be by march till july. They are my favourite fish, when i'll set up my personal tank very soon, it'll be a must.

If u r coming Mauritius, its possible to return with atleast one. But then u'll need vet certificate and permit with the authorities. Legally this is possible. One of my friend have done it from germany.

I think they are overpriced for what they are. Just my opinoin but i think there are far prettier tangs out there for a fraction of the price.

Nice fish and welcome to 3reef. With such a high price tag and limited collection area, I assume demand is pretty high. How is the wild population holding up?

Yes I guest they must be pricey. How much are they in US? One of the main reason might be because of its rarity and also the transport( long distance separating us). Normally Mauritius is the most expensive destination in this business. This might explain the high price of gem tang. There are more pricey fish from mauritius, u people might have heard of the centropyge debelius, cirrhilabrus sanguineus, paracheilinus piscilineatus, plectantias pelicieri..etc..these are endemic.

Hmm at the moment no gem tang. Well we've seen some 3-4 adults(20cm) in the wild recently , but here as a precaution we don't remove the big. Any1 coming coming mauritius let me know. We'll take u see them in nature( if u r lucky);D

Blue dwarf angels are fairly expensive on the wholesale lists. I snagged a gem for a customer which I sold for $2000 USD. However, prices over $3000 USD is not uncommon.
