Have any1 been able to reproduce them??? That would be nice. No need to remove from nature and mayB the price might decrease. I've heard that yellow tangs have been successfully breed? Anyone having an idea on reproducing that would be interesting.

Nope no one has yet. Given brood stock doesn't make it out, and tangs in general have yet to be unlocked, it'll be a while.

Well, hopefully it could be me who could unlock it. Gem tangs might prove quite difficult. They extremely solitary in nature, and I don't how to diferentiate the sexes, they all look the same:p. I've a french friend who stays in Mauritius itself now and he 'was' quite successful with three gem in the same tank. Recently because of a long-lasted power-failure he lost all of them including a ctenochaetus hawaiiensis and on that day he'was not home. Very sad for this guy. Are their scientists doing research on reproduction of tangs. According to the book by wittenrich, regal tangs ahave also been breeded.

Plenty of tangs have breed in tanks (that is NOT the issue), but none have been raised to any real size. First feed and settlement is the stubling block, as with almost every species that is not currently being bred. FWIW I sell larval feeds so I'm pretty in touch with the efforts at hand.

Dear could u suggest me some people who've been breeding tangs and some other fishes. Actually here my father is willing to set up a stock where to reproduce fish rather than wild caught fish. And the Government here is ready to help if we can bring someone competent in reproduction. Well hopefully we can get some help here.

If I get to Mauritius any time soon, I will let you know.

it's a neat fish, but IMO, not worth the crazy asking price. Now If I caught one, or got one there and legally brought it back to my home reef, then I would try that.
