I am fairly new to corals as I am to salt water tanks, but Im learning quickly. My question is that I want my corals to start to grow on my lr, not just the piece of rock that they came on. I have a button polyp, a fiji leather and closed brain. Is there anyway I can encourage their growth on the lr? I find it hard to find spots to place the frag rock where it will look natural. Any suggestions would be well appreciated. Thanks

You'll have to just give them time. Take some now/later pictures so, you can watch the growth and share. The buttons should grow at a pretty reasonably rate.

I used aquarium epoxy to attach the frag rock to the main LR in the tank. It sticks in about a minute and fully cures in about 24 hours. When corraline algae covers it and the coral grows over it, it will look natural anyway.

What They Are and How They Live

    by J. Charles Delbeek

"...They are mysterious guests from an exotic world. Unlike anything else we keep in an aquarium, they represent the essence of the coral reefs that we try to duplicate in our living rooms. Our success at this effort depends greatly on how well we understand these unusual life forms.

Unfortunately, for the average hobbyist, the increased availability of these animals is not matched by the information available concerning their biology and care. Too often, hobbyists know more about who manufactures their aquarium equipment than basic biological information, or proper identification of the animals they are striving to keep. And yet, without this information it is difficult to provide the optimum conditions that will allow them to grow and reproduce..."

It generally takes a few months for the corals to fully acclimate to your tank, lighting and maint. routine. Once they are adjusted, they will start to grow at a pretty good rate assuming you're doing everything correctly.

You can break the piece of rubble that your coral is on just so it leaves a small layer on the coral. You can epoxy that piece to the lr in your tank.
