general reef question

    can someone explain the difference between a reef aquarium and a coral reef aquarium?
    i was just wondering since i am new to the hobby. thanks. :)

    I didnt know there was a difference lol...

    There are many different types of settups. Mainly

    FOWLR - Fish Only With Live Rock

    Reef - With Corals and Fish (sometimes only corals)...


    Each of those two can have various fish and invertebrates as well as corals.

    just terminology IMO

    coral reef tank = reef tank
    just saves the trouble of typing the extra word

    i see. thanks for all the reply.
    the reason i asked was i was reading an article at liveaquaria.com and they have 3 saltwater setups with three different water parameters for each. i havethought that reef and coral setups were the same.but the different parameters from liveaquaria threw me off.

    Theres various lights, elements in the water... and other things specific corals need to survive. as the ocean itself isnt the same everywhere if that makes any sense. Temp... nutrients. minerals etc.
