I wouldn't buy anything live from Petco, including rock.

The petco by me is actually a lot better then most.

I can order online. The live rock I bought didn't have any growing so I don't think it will grow if I don't introduce am I wrong?

It wouldn't hurt. Then scrape some of it off into your tank. Dont expect the stuff to grow quick though my tank is just over 7 months old and i'm just now starting to notice it growing on my base rocks and back glass.

Nope, good lighting, water quality and it will take off, some do use purple up,but it's not required, good calcium, alk and mag levels with regular water changes will get you purple,it just takes time.
