    My local fish store giving away instant ocean salt for free. The cache is its solid as a rock. When I mixed it over night, there was a white powder on the bottom of the bucket.

    So would you get it...

    No, I wouldn't. The fact that it got moist over time allowed for certain elements that shouldn't be allowed to sit in high concentration together (calcium and carbonates come to mind, but others are there too), lest they chemically change (into calcium carbonate in this case), and will no longer be useful to the tank.

    they give it away because the elements in the bucket don't dissolve right anymore. It would probably be ok for FO tho.

    and i only have a fish in my tank. so i might get some.

    Nope, I have thrown away salt do to this. My reef system is worth a lot more to me, than getting free salt. I buy in bulk at 200gal worth each time.
