I have had my tank for about 6 months and feel I am ready for some corals. I am looking for something for a beginer that is generally easy to keep. I have a 55g with 2 Korlia 2's and 2 Korlia 1's for flow. For lighting I have a 48inch Coral Life CF with two 65w True Actinic and two 65w Daylights. (will be upgrading when I get some extra cash and currently looking at Aquatic Life T5's) My water chemistry is good and has been holding steady for about 4 months. I also have about 65-70 pounds of LR, with a lot of ledges for optimal coral placement.

Are there any good websites that sell coral packages? I have been looking at the Coral Pack beginner LPS from LiveAquaria.com

    Thanks.

I would upgrade the lighting first. Really pushing your luck with even the easiest corals at about 2 watts a gallon of fluorescent lighting.

watts per gallon is old. The only thing bad about PC lights is that they waste energy and there is no good way to make a decent reflector. PC lights are good for lower light corals like softies and most lps and some lower light sps. You lighting will suffice for the meantime. I had the same fixture on my tank for several months until I got my T5s. It'll hold you over in the meantime.

The best place for starter corals are local reefers. See if there is a local reef forum for your town. I'm sure some people would be willing to give green star polyps, kenyas, colts, xenia, mushrooms, etc. Craigslist is always a for sure thing for $5-$10 frags.

Heck I got a 26w spiral florescent from walmart growing palys and kenya trees in my sump.

Thanks for the replies. Mattheuw, good tip. I will be checking out the GCAS (greater cincinnati aquarium society) and cincyreef this week.

You will be fine with softies and zoas underthat light and even some LPS if placed high

I had that light for a few months and my softies did great under it as did my zoas. I had a hammer coral die under it and I had a frogspawn that was doing fine. I upgraded to T5s and much more wattage and the frogspawn is now really living up to its potential. Mushrooms, toadstools and zoas will do great under your lighting though.
