i've had the opposite experience. Mine loves to be out and shaking it all the time even during the day, i think mine is diurnal even tho technically their supposed to be nocturnal. Mine is also much smaller then "most" that we've since encountered. no idea why. she's small and cute :) anyway your going to love it, the pom pom is the BEST part of my tank. I have a pico reef, (fluval edge) and i've had the pom pom for 2 years now and she's fantastic, i have no fish tho, just the pom pom and assorted coral and 2 sexy shrimps.

they can't if they lose both.

If they lose 1 of the 2 nems then they eventuall split the one nem into two.

if they lose both they will pick up random things around the tank as a substitute, they have been known to use zoas and the such.

if they lose both their nems they cannot get them back, UNLESS there is another pom pom in the tank. Pom pom #2 will give nem-less pom pom #1 one of his or her poms. They share. They later split their singular nems and eventually both have 2.

They can't grow them from nowhere. Sometimes they put one down. to molt, or they have been known to "stash" them .

There's actually research being done as to the origin of the nems they use. They aren't found independent of the pompoms. Its quite intresting :)
    :);D
