If you're interested in tangs, get a 125 *evil grin*. ;D

I have 3 in my 125, kinda pushing the limits there I admit. But they live relatively peacefully together.

I have a baby blue tang in my 65 gallon. But I bought him knowing I was going to be building a 240 gallon tank before he got to big. If you have the money get a tank as big as you can. Take your time and don't rush into buying a tank without a lot of planning as to equipment and live stock. You will be happier in the long run.

I am excited to see your setup once you are up and running.

I still want to know what type of equipment this 40 you speak of came with. If it was really just the tank and stand, $389.00 is a freaking ripoff and you should look around and do more shopping. I paid half that for my 40 gallon combo kit at petco and still felt I got ripped. $400 will get you a much larger, decent set-up if you search craigslist and stay patient for a while.

I bought a 110 gallon fully loaded reef tank, all the bells and whistles on Craigs List for $550. Look on this site before you buy new. By the way it cost $2000.00 only 2 years ago. BUY BIG YOU WONT REGRET IT.

$389 for a 40 gallon tank and stand is a rip off. 2 tangs shouldn't live in a 40, either. Get a larger tank, you won't regret it.

I agree witht the 3reef crew. I can think of 390 reasons NOT to buy that tank. It would have to come with quite a few top of the line extras for me to even wink at it. I'm with Pack, search Craigslist. It's a no-brainer.

Hey, and one extra bump for you. Thanks for not going out and buying it, then throwing all those fish in there, and then posting an ASAP thread on why everything is belly-up!! LOL

yah i think the fact that he was willing to give me 40% off a bunch of stuff got me interested. I hope i didn't come off as being an uninformed newbie with the thread haha I knew the responses I got would be similar to what you have all said lol. What I really want are two 100 gallon tanks. One fish only to house breeds like angel/butterfly/trigger, stuff like that and then a reef tank with the little guys and the two tangs. i have checked craigslist and yah there are really good deals there. Another aspect is that despite how bad I may have made my LFS guy sound, he is a very nice guy and needed to get rid of the tank/stand/canopy to make room for an 80 gallon display tank so I was kinda trying to help him out. But as you can all see it is 8:00 PST and I did not buy the tank LOL. I appreciate everyone's input and I will probably be asking more lame questions to get affirmation haha. I'm just too excited you guys help me from making impulse buys lol I will keep you all updated on my quest and good karma to all of you thanks again!!

Not a stupid noob thread at all dude. I'm glad you started it instead of buying it, then finding out after. Good decision on skipping the tank.

I've been at this hobby for....12+ years now and I finally have 3 real tanks. I have the 125g reef. I just purchased a 55 corner 1/4 cylinder tank this weekend (preditor tank) and just for fun I have a 12g biocube. It is so sweet! I have been patient, looking for good deals, researching, asking "noob" questions, and I have to tell you, I am happy. Its a great thing you passed that one up, this means better things are to come!
