How do you even sex mandarins? And most likely theyll out compete the other for pods and die.

Ever hear of the power of positive thinking? Keeping Mandarins isn't like it used to be. It's called captive breeding!!

I think it's a great idea!! I would just make sure it's eating prepared like yours. Have you tried the Nutramar Ova yet? I'm hearing Mandarins love it :)

yes i would absolutely make sure that the female would eat frozen. Mine LOVES the aqua treasures glacier fed mysis stuff. He also likes frozen brine and nutramar ova. And the first frozen food he ever ate was hikari bloodworms. As you can see he likes his jar in the corner he will sit in it for hours come feeding time. Mandarins are easily my favorite fish.

For what it's worth, Mr. Saltwater tank dude had a breeding pair of green mandrins, the "mating dance" they did was something to behold. I say go for it!

The problem IMO of keeping a Mandarin in such a small tank(even eating prepared foods) is that this fish is used to eating small foods 8 hours a day. Trying to keep one fat and healthy by feeding prepared foods alone is not a good idea and rarely(if ever) works for long. You will need to be feeding it constantly which will ultimately compromise water quality especially in a small tank.Prepared foods should be used as a supplement for there diet not as a substitute. It can take months for these fish to slowly starve to death and judging from the picture your looks to be on the skinny side. I would never suggest adding one of these to a 29 gallon tank let alone 2.
