Anyone know why? I got a piece of purple covered lr from the lfs, its spreading but the problem is about 20% of its purple and the rest is green. I dont think its cyano b/c I cant dust it off. Im getting green and little dots of purple on the glass. The green is also all over my astrea snails now.

I'm no coralline expert but I have the green as well. It loves to grow all over the glass and is a real pain. I know there are a bunch of different colors and each one requires a different light spectrum to flourish.

I'm no coralline expert either but I had a reef about 10 years ago that had green. I was told that most of the rock with green came from Florida years ago. I don't know if there is any truth to that but thats what I was told. I purchased some rock rubble with a bunch of purple and red and got the rocks about 20% covered with purple/red over about 2 years before I sold it.

Well, I got most of..well all of my lr from petco. I mean if you need good base lr the stuff isn't that bad I got it about 2 years ago and its so cheap! This is the first time its been under good lighting though, maybe it was there all along I just didn't have the right light to grow it. But I really prefer the purple alot more the green just doesn't look that good to me. Just my 2 cents.

I have both types in my 60 FOWLR but only the reddish stuff in my reef

in my tank, the green is only on the glass at the back and in the back corners - never had any spots of in on front glass and also not on the rock, whereas the reddish stuff is on both the glass and rock work in both set ups

may colour varieties exist but as said above different lighting situations can encourage some types over others

I also had green coralline, was not able to get it off with a toothbrush so I know it wasnt algae. It has since been replaced with purple. I really liked the green too.

yeah the green to me is almost like coralline "pre-algae"

if i'm gonna get coralline growth, i'll see some green laid down first, it's almost like a primer coat for the purple coralline... then the red coralline seems to lay down on top of the purple but only in small spots like maybe no bigger than a millimeter

It will probably turn purple in a few months. I got the green first also.

My tank grew all green coralline on the overflows. The rock grew all pink coralline. And now I am getting a mix of green and pink on the black overflows. The glass doesnt really get any coralline

Your a lucky man. Scraping coralline off the glass is not fun. I have to do it about every other week, and I let it get pretty bad before scraping.
