Getting my head straight, lol, better said than done sometimes. Anyways this thread is purposed to help me wrap my mind around things I am going to get for my setup in the near future, and get advice from you guys.

First of here is my setup:
    55g FOWLR
    HOB Filter
    AquaC Remora Skimmer
    50lbs LR
    40lbs Live Sand
    2 - 800 GPH powerheads

Next here is my shopping list:
    20g or 29g fish tank for a Sump/Refugium
Mag 5 or Mag 7 pump
PVC Fittings, Flex tube, and Pipe
Cobalt 1200 (to replace Skimmer pump)
    Power Strip
    2 - Timers
    Live Sand
    Macroalgae
    Reactor for GFO
    Reactor for Carbon
    (The List Goes On)

Okay now that I have that out of the way, here goes time to "Get my head straight".

With the upcoming dollar gallon sale I am going to be purchasing me a 20g or 29g tank for my sump/refugium. I have some extra glass that came from a window that I will use to make the baffles with. This is being bought before my stand is completed due to the PetCo sale. After this is bought and built I will work on completing my tank stand.

I will then purchase the stuff to build my DIY overflow and return lines. I plan on using a 5g bucket as my make shift tank to customize my lines. If I go with 1" lines for my drain I can have up to 600gph, and I will use the same size for my return.

If the head pressures that the data sheet says for the Mag 5 would have 375gph at 4'. I plan on having a ball valve in line which from my research will decrease the gph by about 50gph. So the flow would be about 325gph. If I go with a Mag 7 the 425gph and minus the 50gph would leave me with 375gph. When I get the cobalt 1200 for my skimmer it will be able to process about 300gph, and I plan on running a tee from my drain to the refugium and have about 20-40gph running through it. My refugium is going to be approximately 10g so that will be from 2x-4x in circulation.

I will have to buy me a new Power Strip to be placed under the stand and add some timers for my lights. There is this cool power strip that has individual switches for east plug in so I can turn of things and do maintenance.

In my refugium I plan on going with a DSP and I will add some cheato for my macroalgae. Hopefully after I get my tank going good I can add some copepods to the mix.

The Reactors I am planning on adding last I was to get the dual reactors from BRS but I am not sure how well they would work, any info from you guys would help. I have even thought about trying my hand at building my own and in-line plumb them from my drain. What do you guys think about that? Will it work? I am just trying to eliminate the use of another pump.

that is it for now. i have many many more plans, but I am trying to focus on these projects first. Thanks for any input you guys have in advance.

    (to be continued)

Vinny, I am still not sure the route I am going with my return pump.. I have a lot of reading and studying left to do. This is just a benchmark for me or anyone else to go by.
